Sibiel is a village which belongs to the commune of Saliste. It is situated on the Sibiel valley, and on the old road which came from Sibiu trough Cristian-Orlat passing by the Salgo fortress, going through Sibiel-Vale_Saliste. It is a small train station on the route Sibiu-Vintu de Jos. It has been first attested in 1383. Its population is about 445 inhabitants. The village is profiled on the rural tourism, since 35 years ago, when this idea came to life.

Sibiel is also the birth place of the historian Andrei Otetea ( 1894-1977).

The museum of icons painted on glass from Sibiel is the largest of this type in Europe. The gathering of the collection started in 1969, the pieces were mostly donated.

The orthodox church ‘Sf. Treime” and the fortress made out of stones and earth from the XII-XIII, are two tourist objectives that could be visited in the area.

The most important customs, specific for this area are the ones related to the winter feasts. The” Colindul feciorilor”(the Boys  Carol Singing) and “Ceata Junilor” (The Jungsters Group) are two of the most appreciated customs by the visitors. The dances specific to the area arround Sibiu are men’s dances like “Calusarii”, “Braul “ or “Ghiboi’s Sarba”. The traditional costume of this area is easy to recognise by its black and white combination.
